I saw your smile today and knew you still,
despite the distance and the many years,
and yes, this time it did an ache fulfil;
yet in her smile there were none of your tears.
You were a little younger back then, though,
and maybe she does not share your same fears,
but still it pleases me this time to know
that you survive though detail disappears.
That’s not to say I miss your warm embrace,
or any such, damn-fool, romantic line;
since I have trouble picturing your face,
I just like seeing it from time to time.
Just that I hope you’ll see me too one day,
that’s it, the end, that’s all I have to say.
